Workshop Six - Research - Suzanne Carpenter

Reminds of wrapping paper, simple illustrations with bold and bright colours.

Workshop Six - Research - Samantha Hahn

Good use of space and light and dark colours to get tonal detail.

Workshop Six - Research - Jake Blanchard

Strong bold colours and lots of attention to detail of  line and sometimes in the case of first pattern (at top) has got too busy.

Workshop Six - Research - Harriet Seed

Its interesting to see how in each pattern the imagery patterns are spaced differently and gives kind of feel that you see something different everytime you look at it.

Workshop Three - Research - Quentin Blake

Scratchy quick line drawings and a good use of loose colour which portrays a lot of activity.

Workshop Three - Research - Peter de Seve

Good character design which is important for story telling.

Workshop Three - Research - Garry Parsons

Use of strong bold colours and the Illustrations tell a story reflecting the book titles.

Workshop Three - Research - David Tazzyman

Strong use of colour and line with well defined characters which are needed for a story to be understood. The imagery on the book covers introduces the subject of the story.

Workshop Two - Research - Jesse Kuhn

Simple Illustrations which get the message across.

Workshop Two - Research - Mike Lemanski

Use of  block colour to make the illustrations stand out without trying to make them 3D it captures movement which gains interest in the editorial piece.

Workshop Two - Research - Kelsey Heinrichs

I find this style quite interesting because it gives you a strong sense of space and place.

Workshop Two - Research - Andrew Rae

I find this style interesting becuase it captures different characters and opens the mind to different points of view which is what you need for support of an editorial piece. It also needs to standout and capture people's attention.

Workshop One - Research Pete Fowler

I like this style as it has a strong sense of character defintion and use of colour.

Workshop One - Research - Marc Boutavant

I like this style because it is very cariturised but also there is alot going on in each Illustrations giving a sense of movement and action throughout the illustrations even though they are only 2D bringing the illustrations to life. I feel to achieve this within any piece of work is always diffcult but Marc Boutavant has perfected this technique which is useful for this workshop as we are trying to reflect a mood amongst the diners.

Workshop One - Research - Beryl Cook

Beryl Cook's work has always been a favorite of mine I chose to research her for this workshop because Beryl Cook has a way of capturing life in a moment of time through drawing that only gives a feel of the moment but also the fun side of the moment through the strong characters and facial expressions. Instead of capturing the moment in time through photography like Herni Cartier Bresson.

Workshop One - Research - Lucinda Rodgers

I like Lucinda Rodgers style of work particularly how she has captured the detail of people and buidlings in some cases with a quick pen outline not always going into detail. I like this approach a quick drawing method because you don't end up worrying about getting all the proportions of the person or building accurate you only concern yourself with what you can see and get done in the time scale you have. Which makes you slowly become over time better at drawing quickly and perhaps being able to add in further detail to the drawing at a later stage. I feel looking at Lucinda Rodgers work has provided me with confidence to not worry about getting every detail correct but purely about the environment people are in and capturing them in that time frame.
